Task 2- Two famous Animators

Walt Disney

Walter Disney was famous for making Walt Disney. He was the co-owner of Walt Disney with his brother Roy. Beginning his career Walt Disney animated a few movies in 1922 which were Cinderella , Puss in Boots, Goldie Locks and the Three Bears, Jack and the Beanstalk, The Four Musicians of Bremen. The next lot of movies that Walt Disney animated was in 1924 these consisted of 1924 Alice Hunting in Africa, Alice and the Dog Catcher, Alice's Fishy Story, Alice's Wild West Show, Alice's Spooky Adventure and Alice's Day at Sea. He then animated a movie in 1927 which was called Trolley Troubles and then in 1935 he animated Servants' Entrance.

Most of Walt Disney's movies that he animated were short movies. His work has had  a huge impact on animation because he was the first animator to make an animation with sound on Steamboat Willie. Also because most of his work has influenced different ways to show the classic animations. Snow White and the Seven Dwarves not only was is the first featured length animation to have sound it also was the first featured length animation to use colour throughout.

Tim Burton

Tim Burton began as an apprentice animator at Walt Disney Studios in 1980. One of the first films that he animated was called Stalk of the Celery Monster which was made in1978. The second film he animated was the Fox and the Hound in 1979. In 1982 he animated a movie called Vincent, in which payed homage of his childhood idol. In 1982 he made Luau also in 1982 he animated TRON.

Most of his films that he animated was either for a TV series or a short film. Tim Burton's animations has had an impact on animation because he focuses his work on a darker perspective instead of a lighter point of view this is shown through his shows like Coraline, Nightmare before Christmas, Corpse Bride and Vincent. Looking at these examples all of them are shown as a dark fantasy. He also mostly uses Stop-motion animation for the majority of his works.

The significance of the work that the two key animators from different time periods have a quite similar approach this is because they have both done quite a few short movies.

Task 1- How animation works and the different animation technology

What is Animation?
Animation is a series of images that play tricks on someone's mind by making them think that an image is actually moving.

How Animation Works?
Animation works through different forms.
One of the way animation works is the frames per second. The frames per second is a vital importance towards a animation.

The frames per second helps the animator to realize how long the movie actually is.

The development of animation technology has changed by a vast amount.

Different Animation technology

Zoetrope
To begin with in 1834 the zoetrope was made by William Horner and was originally called Daedalum. Zoetrope was one of the first animation technology that was created.

This shows us how the Zoetrope actually works. You get your series of images you have drawn and then you place them into the zoetrope and watch through the holes made in the zoetrope and spin it. Then the images should look as though that they are moving so it tricks your mind and eyes to see that it's actually moving.

Sound in Animation

Animation sounds were created in 1928. The first ever animated movie to use sound was in fact Steam Boat Willie which was created by Walt Disney.

This shows us the sound and that it's a cut out animation with sound added towards it by a little bit of music and a few noises to show us what it actually happening and to give the animation a bit more of an effect on what people are watching.

The sound for in sound animation was placed onto a different disk and played at the same time as the animation to give it it's sound.

CGI Animation
CGI stands for Computer Generated Imagery. Before CGI Animation was created in 3D they had it in 2D and the first show ever used for CGI was in 1973. The first time that 3D CGI was created was in 1976. There are a few famous companies that use CGI Animation these companies consist of Pixar and Disney.

The Six Million Dollar Man was the first television show to show CGI in it's opening sequence. Westworld was the first featured length movie ever made with CGI.

What is CGI?
CGI is a process used for generating animating imagery. This means that they can be placed onto the computer to be adjusted for a film. Like in the hobbit they use CGI when they make the orcs. So

This shows us that by using CGI animation it gives it a 3D effect and that it even has sound with music and people talking also still has the sound effects from the film so that people know what is actually happening.

Difference between Zoetrope Animation and CGI Animation and Sound in`Animation
Between CGI Animation and Zoetrope animation there is quite a few differences for starters the CGI animation is 3D where the zoetrope animation is 2D. Another difference between the two is that CGI animation has sound where Zoetrope animation doesn't.

There is also some differences between Sound in Animation and Zoetrope though the two are both similar because their both 2D. Sound in Animation has different sound effects while Zoetrope doesn't.

Finally, the differences between Sound in animation and CGI animation are quite similar. They both hold sound in them but CGI animation is 3D and the sound in Animation is 2D.
